Blogging is a great way for you to connect with potential clients and get them familiar with you and your knowledge before even meeting. To achieve this you must 1) Catch the attention of those you want as your audience 2) Get them to read your blog.
To do this you must follow the five simple steps below:
#1. CATCHY TITLE
Nothing grabs the attention of potential viewers quicker then a 4 – 8 word title. It must be thought provoking and speak to the crowd you are targeting. Some examples of good titles are:
– Three Simple Rules to Build CRE Contacts
– Facts to Know Before Signing a Listing
– How Emailing can Lease your Clients Space
Each of the above are short, to the point, and more importantly, speak directly to the audience you are trying to attract.
#2. NICE GRAPHICS
Right under your title should be an equally eye grabbing photo.
#3. BE YOU – WRITE WHAT IS IN YOUR MIND
A blog is basically your thoughts and opinions on a subject, so simply put them on paper in any format you want. It could be a paragraph or bullet points – it doesn’t matter.
The concept of a blog is that it is a great way to reach out to your contacts and beyond with informative ideas to help them in business or in their daily life. A regular blog can go a long way to keeping you “top of mind” with contacts and getting you “into the minds” of potential clients.
#4. MAKE YOUR FIRST PARAGRAPH A WINNER
A blog should never be too long (max. 3 paragraphs if possible) but regardless of its length you must make your first paragraph stand out like a brunette in California. It is this first paragraph that will determine whether your reader continues on or stops and moves on to the next blog.
Remember, you are fighting the attention spans of people who grew up on MTV, Miami Vice, and Married with Children – if you don’t grab’em quick they are lost to you.
#5. EASY PEASEY
With the knowledge that your audience already has a limited attention span, add into that the fact that they will most likely be looking at it on their phone while their mother-in-law is describing to them the perfect cure for her bunions, you need to realize that your reader will only glance at it and pick out things of interest to them – therefore break up your blog to accommodate this fact:
– Use headers
– Keep paragraphs short
– Add humor to keep them engaged
– Use bullets
BONUS – #6. DON’T DO WHAT YOU CAN GET OTHERS TO DO
I said (5) five easy points but I have included a bonus point. Why do a blog if you can have someone do it for you? A blog is a great way for you to keep in contact with your clients and reach beyond them to others but you must be regular, so you either need to commit or better yet, hire someone to do it for you.
